What is Trout in the Classroom and how can I get involved?

Trout in the Classroom (TIC) is an environmental education program in which students in grades k-12:

  • Raise trout from eggs to fry
  • Monitor tank water quality
  • Engage in stream habitat study
  • Learn to appreciate water resources
  • Begin to foster a conservation ethic
  • Grow to understand ecosystems.

TIC is geared at educating school-aged children about fish habitat and conservation. Students will have a tank in their classroom and raise fry to fish throughout the school year. Towards the end of the school year, students will take a field trip to a nearby stream and release the fish. There are pre-written lesson plans for math, science, and social studies available on the TIC website. Click here to learn more about the Trout in the Classroom program.
