Bristol Bay Campaign Manager

Trout Unlimited, North America’s largest cold-water fish conservation organization is seeking a highly motivated individual to become the Bristol Bay Campaign Manager within TU’s Alaska Program. The Campaign Manager will be responsible for managing all facets of TU’s campaign to protect state and federal lands in the magnificent Bristol Bay region in southwest Alaska from large scale mining. Specific campaign goals include: (1) preventing development of the proposed Pebble Mine; and (2) permanently protecting approximately 1,000,000 acres of federal land managed by the Bureau of Land Management from mining and other destructive land uses.

The Campaign Manager will report to the Alaska Program Director and work closely with the Director to identify the conservation goals for Bristol Bay and devise and implement the strategies and tactics necessary to achieve those goals.

Primary responsibilities:

  1. Managing all facets of the Bristol Bay Campaign, including federal and state policy advocacy, communications, outreach and litigation to ensure that they are well coordinated and effective;
  2. Managing Alaska Program staff and outside contractors engaged in the Bristol Bay Campaign;
  3. Developing and managing the Campaign budget;
  4. Fundraising and maintaining good relations with financial supporters; and
  5. Coordinating with TU’s partners in the Bristol Bay Campaign, including conservation organizations, Alaska Native tribes and corporations, subsistence, sport and commercial fishermen, scientists, hunters, and other Alaskans from across the political spectrum, to ensure that these partnerships are strong and effective.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
  2. Experience managing an issue and/or political campaign
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  4. Highly organized and attentive to detail
  5. Team leadership skills
  6. Budget management skills
  7. Fundraising aptitude
  8. Ability to work independently
  9. Knowledge of Alaska politics and culture
  10. Willingness and ability to travel
  11. Good sense of humor
  12. Passion for protecting fish and wildlife and their habitat in Bristol Bay

Location: Strong preference for Alaska
