Fly Tying: The Biot Emerger

Hook:  Curved

Thread: 8/0

Tail: Teal flank feathers

Body: Biot

UV Resin:  Deer Creek Diamond Fine

Thorax: Thin Skin

Dubbing: Color to match

Legs: Teal flank feathers

1. Make neat and even wraps on hook.

2. Tie in the tail.

3. Tie in the biot.  I like to tie my biot with the notch facing up for a more segmented look.

4. Wrap the biot around the hook evenly.

5. Apply thin coat of UV Resin over the biot.  I use Deer Creek Diamond Fine.

6. Cure for 5 seconds.

7. Tie in Thin Skin

8. Add dubbing.

9. Tie in legs.

10. Pull forward the Thin Skin and tie right behind hook eye.

11. Add small drip of UV Resin (Deer Creek Diamond Fine) over the Thin Skin.

12. Cure with light for 5 seconds.

13. Go Fish!

That's a beauty. I haven't played with UV coating, I'll have to give it a shot. Thanks for posting!

I'm so glad there are people like you willing to tie these tiny things! Give me a big, fat saltwater pattern any day--in fact, I'll trade you fly for fly for a dozen of these little beauties!

I hope to see more patterns from you, Aileen! Great job!

What sizes do you tie these in?

As soon as my moving truck arrives at my new house I'll try my hand at a few of them and post photos of my efforts.

Thanks for the motivation. I tied up some. They look so good. I like the biot body. I substituted malard for the tail and wing, and mottled turkey for the wing case. and just head cement, no hi tech glue.

Earl,
That's a beauty, super-buggy. I actually tried to eat it through the screen...
