Tomorrow marks a historic day on Maine's Penobscot River. The Veazie Dam, the lowermost dam on the river, will be breached tomorrow at 10 a.m. You can watch the breaching and see the beginning of the end of the dam. You can also follow tomorrow's event and activites on Facebook.
This is the second dam to be breached on the river, and will allow the river to flow from Milford, Maine to the sea, allowing Atlantic salmon and 10 other species of sea-run fish access to their historic habitat. It's a project that TU has been a part of since the beginning, over a decade ago. We're proud to be a participant in a the largest river restoration project of its kind and look forward to the day when Atlantic salmon once again are synonymous with Maine and the Penobscot River. A huge thank you to all of the volunteers and staff who have made this restoration project possible...we'll give an update on tomorrow's breaching as things unfold.
