Dear Wisconsin TU Member or Friend:
In this year’s Wisconsin budget, there is a provision which significantly increases stream bank easement acquisition funding, notably in the western and southwestern portion of the state, the Milwaukee and Sheboygan River watersheds in the southeast, and trout streams in northeast Wisconsin.
Stream bank easements are the lifeblood of Wisconsin TU’s in-stream projects, which is our most visible work.
Moreover, it is now the written position of Wisconsin TU that stream work projects must involve public access, in perpetuity. Quite simply, we go to lengths to ensure that our stream work benefits future generations of anglers, and access is a critical element in that equation.
At its October meeting, the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board (“NRB”) will take up the proposed increase and prioritization of stream bank easement acquisition.
This issue is obviously very important to Wisconsin TU, and we ask that all Chapters and volunteers write in to the NRB, and submit comments supporting this agenda item.
The specific agenda item is “3 – B – 6: The Department’s Updated Streambank Easement Protection Strategy.”
To submit written comments in support of 3 – B – 6, please send an e-mail to Laurie Ross, at email@example.com, or give her a call at 608-267-7420 to register to testify in person.
A link to the Wisconsin Natural Recourses Board October 22 – 23, 2013 agenda and meeting materials is here.
The deadline to submit comments is 11:00 a.m. on October 18, 2013.
This is a huge issue for Wisconsin TU – PLEASE MAKE YOUR CHAPTER AND ITS VOLUNTEERS’ VOICES HEARD.
Thank you for all that you do for Wisconsin Trout Unlimited.
