Boardman River

Tip of the week

Early mornings are best in the lower river from Front St. Bridge to the mouth as skippers come in over night and become spooky as light and anglers arrive each morning. Below Sabin dam, fish streamers middays when air temps are best. Slow retrieval is necessary now with water temps declining rapidly. Swinging flies allows for slower presentations. Fish are metabolizing slowly now and they will be slow to move. Downtown, use indicators with single egg patterns and nymphs.

Weir is now open at Hall Street in downtown Traverse City. Lower Boardman has a few steelhead daily from Union Street Dam to the mouth. Skippers are coming in and out daily.
