Steelhead in the Classroom
Through Trout and Steelhead in the Classroom, TU is educating students about the value of sustaining healthy watersheds and fish populations and preparing for lasting conservation. The Redwood Empire Chapter of Trout Unlimited worked with two Healdsburg Elementary School classes. The students raised, reared and learned about the steelhead in their classroom. Members of the Redwood Empire Chapter and the students then traveled to Michel-Schlumberger Wine Estate to release the steelhead into Wine Creek.
Healdsburg Wild Steelhead Festival
The Redwood Empire Chapter of Trout Unlimited co-sponsored the first annual Healdsburg Wild Steelhead Festival in the heart of Sonoma County’s Wine Country: February 8-10, 2008.
- The Wild Steelhead Festival brings public awareness to this threatened species. The Russian River once hosted the 3rd-largest steelhead run in California, attracting anglers from around the world. The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors declared February “Steelhead Month” and established a commitment to restore a run of 50,000 wild steelhead in the Russian River.
- We invite you to celebrate the annual return of the wild steelhead with us and to learn about the benefits they bring to our community and the efforts being made to enhance their natural habitat. Join us for Food, Fish and Fun on Saturday, February 9 on the Plaza from 10-4 p.m. You’ll find wine tasting, fishing and cooking demos, a trout pond for the young anglers, arts and crafts, tasty treats, all the latest fishing gear and canoes, info from a variety of organizations, and more.
- Respect, restore and celebrate wild steelhead with us in Healdsburg. See the schedule of events, book your accommodations, and find more info about the Healdsburg Wild Steelhead Festival.
