Money will go to the Sportsmen’s Conservation Project’s efforts to protect backcountry fish and game habitat

WASHINGTON—Tenkara USA, the first company to introduce the tenkara method of fishing to the US, announced this week that it will donate its “1% for the Planet” contributions to Trout Unlimited’s Sportsmen’s Conservation Project.

Jim Jeffress, backcountry land coordinator for the sportsmen’s conservation project spearheaded by Trout Unlimited, approached the Humboldt County Commission well over a year ago with a proposal to start the governmental process of asking Congress to remove the Wilderness Study Area (WSA) designation for Blue Lakes and Alder Creek.

Pine Forest to be recommended for Wilderness redesignation

The Humboldt County Commission took action by a 5-0 vote Oct. 18 to adopt all 12 recommendations of the Pine Forest Wilderness Study Area (WSA) Working Group. That action comes on the heels of more than a year of effort by the working group to refine and redefine the boundaries of the study area before recommending that Congress officially make the area Wilderness.
