When it comes to abandoned mines, it would be extremely difficult for one person to undertake a successful clean up project. Likewise, it would be extremely difficult for a single group of people to tackle the problems caused by abandoned mines in their watershed.

The role of partnerships in abandoned mine restoration cannot be overemphasized. Partnerships bring together the various stakeholders in a watershed to make sure that everyone’s voice is heard. They also create a sense of community and help bring together the resources and money necessary to tackle abandoned mines. A strong partnership between several community groups can also help bring state and federal agencies to the table.
