Trout Creek, a tributary to the Root River in southeastern Minnesota, is a winding, coldwater spring creek. Hiawatha Chapter TU has worked on various sections since the early 90's, focusing on both DNR lands and private properties with easement access to restore the stability and forms of the stream banks. Silty, eroding stream systems become better brook trout habitat after resloping the banks to reconnect the stream with its floodplain, adding plunge pools and controlling erosion sources. More work is planned for 2006, and as with other projects, assistance from Twin Cities TU will augment their efforts.
