TU will be helping out for this event which is put on by the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation and Kitsap County Parks & Recreation. We will set up a booth and will be teaching kids to tie flies and promoting our club.
Though the event does allow kids to "catch and keep" their small trout, the fish are stocked for this event and we feel that it is important for kids to have a successful first experience fishing so that they will develop a love for the sport. Then, hopefully as they get older, they will make good choices about sustainable fishing practices. After all, nearly all of today's fly anglers started out fishing spinners and bobbers/worms as kids and switched over once we understood the "big picture", developed more patience to learn how to fly fish, and appreciated all that goes with it. Bottom line...we need more kids to love fishing so that they will grow up and help preserve and protect our natural resources.
The event starts at 9:00. Kids are pre-registered and as of now it is full....with over 300 kids signed up!
Location: Island Lake County Park
