On February 27, 2014, Trout Unlimited (TU) will host a dinner in Washington, DC to honor wounded servicemen and women. The Veterans Service Partnership (VSP) is a nation-wide effort initiated by TU in 2011 to engage our 400 chapters and 150,000 members in the good work of bringing rehabilitation, healing and hope to our nation's recovering soldiers and disabled veterans. Thanks in large part to the support of the program sponsors, Telos Corporation and the Goyanes Family Foundation, TU is working with Project Healing Waters, Wounded Warriors, and other organizations that use fishing and conservation as a way for wounded veterans to heal and rehabilitate.

The dinner will be hosted by Admiral Dennis Blair, US Navy (retired) and the former Director of National Intelligence, and Mr. Jeffrey Smith, Senior Partner, Arnold & Porter LLP and former General Counsel of the CIA, two very special guests who believe wounded veterans should be given an opportunity to heal through the experience of angling. The Washington, DC offices of Arnold & Porter, LLP, are generously providing the venue for the evening.

Through the great generosity of our sponsors and supporters, 115 TU chapters in 35 states have helped 4,140 veterans to date. From its humble beginnings in early 2011 our Veterans Service Partnership has seen remarkable growth. TU volunteers have donated more than 150,000 hours in support of our veterans and just during the past year we have seen a 34% increase in the number of veterans served and a 32% increase in the number of TU volunteers lending their expertise, their thanks, and their friendship to these deserving veterans. From a record 50,000 hours donated last year, we have seen a 24% increase during the current year, which includes a 30% increase in the number of on-stream fishing outings. Teaching every aspect of our sport, from the basics of the gear we use to entomology and cold water conservation, TU members are making a difference in the lives of America's finest.

In 2014 we hope to dramatically increase the number of veterans receiving the healing and rehabilitation that our sport offers. We hope you will join other patriotic and conservation-minded supporters from the greater Washington, DC area in supporting returning veterans and TU's Veterans Service Partnership by joining us on February 27, 2014.
