Biography - Luca Adelfio

As TU’s official traveling blogger, Luca's charge is to with talk grassroots volunteers, tour restoration efforts and, of course, fish trout waters across the country. Through his blog posts, he’ll capture the state of TU today—the breadth of projects, the challenges and the people grappling with those challenges

And it would have been hard to find a more qualified recruit for the job. Here are the highlights:

• Started fishing at the age of 9 on the waters around his home in his native Maryland
• Secretary of the TU National Capital Chapter at age 15 and an internship at the TU national office at 18
• Employed by the Orvis Company while in High School
• At 17, worked the spring as a fisheries tech on the Potomac River, and then spent the summer on the road, fishing solo across the country
• Graduate of Colorado College with an undergraduate thesis on the effects of wildfire on salmonid habitat quality; recipient of the institutions James Enderson Award in Conservation Biology
• Worked three consecutiver summers ('03-'05)  for US Forest Service's Fish and Aquatic ecology Unit;  lived and worked in the mountain backcountry while collecting data for their long-term study on effects of forest management practices on  habitat of threatened salmonids in the upper Columbia River basin
• Currently a resident of Montana where he uses his skills as a ski patroller and certified Emergency Medical Tech (EMT) to kill time between fishing seasons
