Trout Unlimited helped organize a strong cadre of anglers and hunters in New Mexico who urged President Obama to designate the Rio Grande del Norte as a national monument. In late March, the president did exactly that, cementing in place the sporting opportunities found in the area and protecting the region's sporting heritage in perpetuity.

Since the Embrace-A-Stream program started in 1975, TU has given over $4 million in grants to local chapters and councils for on-the-ground projects all over America. This year, TU gave $115,000 to chapters and councils in 16 states.

Orvis is donating $50,000 to TU's work to protect Bristol Bay, Alaska from the perils associated with the massive open-pit Pebble Mine, and it's encouraging its customers to match the grant, potentially making it possible for $100,000 to find its way into on of TU's most important conservation efforts.
