TU Taps Joel R. Johnson as New Chief Marketing Officer

Former ad exec and branding pro now heads up TUs marketing and communications

WASHINGTON, D.C.Trout Unlimited today announced that Joel R. Johnson, a former advertising agency executive and branding expert, will head up the non-profit conservation organizations marketing and communications efforts.

Im thrilled to come to an organization with such a stellar record for on-the-ground conservation, Johnson said. Ive been a TU member for a long time, and my own passion for fly fishing has given me great insight into the work TU does to make angling better all across America.

Johnson comes to TU with more than 15 years of advertising, marketing and brand management experience. Most recently, he worked as a senior vice president for GMMB, where he developed marketing strategies for the American Beverage Association, the Consumer Healthcare Products Association, and the Autocare Association. In years past, hes worked to promote brands at PR and digital agencies, brands like Gillette, Pepsi and HP. Johnson will lead the membership marketing efforts, communications and PR, and corporate marketing teams at TU.

Joel brings very useful experience to TU, said Chris Wood, president and CEO of Trout Unlimited. Not only does he have the high-level marketing knowledge that will help us take our branding efforts to the next level, but hes a passionate angler who understands that fishing is our front door, and that our growth and success will be driven by modern communications to anglers who get the connection between intact habitat, clean water and quality fishing. Were very lucky to have him on board.

Trout Unlimited is the nations oldest and largest coldwater fisheries conservation organization dedicated to conserving, protecting and restoring North Americas trout and salmon and their watersheds. Follow TU on Facebook and Twitter, and visit us online at tu.org.
