In 1999, Trout Unlimited and the River Alliance of Wisconsin, with the financial support of the Great Lakes Protection Fund, began working on three restoration projects in eastern Wisconsin, demonstrating the process and benefits of small dam removal. The three projects, in the Sheboygan River watershed, were highlighted at the Small Dam Removal Workshop and Working Meeting held in April 2001. The demonstration projects are:
