2012 San Francisco Gala Invitation [2]
Trout Unlimited's 2012 San Francisco Gala will honor 1% for the Planet, Yvon Chouinard and Craig Mathews. Yvon Chouinard, Founder of Patagonia, Inc. and Craig Mathews, owner of Blue Ribbon Flies, were environmentalists running successful businesses. They came together through a love of fly fishing and, with this in common, they created a plan to encourage more businesses to give more, protect natural resources, and engage in conservation. From meager beginnings and launching in 2002, 1% has grown to have more than 1,500 members and total giving surpasses $100 million. This is an important model in a number of ways - first, it is good business to protect natural resources; second, giving 1% is easy; third, 1% for the Planet is inspiring and is creating connections between business and the environment. It is not one or the other, but all of us working together toward great solutions.
TU is pleased to present our Conservation Leadership Award in 2012 to 1% for the Planet in honor of their efforts to protect trout and salmon populations and illustrate that good business decisions can make a difference for our natural resources.
