Colorado

Many rivers and streams in Colorado are heavily depleted and lack the flows necessary to sustain healthy coldwater fisheries. Trout Unlimited's Colorado Water Project works to address this problem. Since its inception in 1998, the CWP has defeated water diversion and storage projects that would diminish river flows, has helped to pass several pieces of legislation expanding the state instream flow program, and has created dialogue among water providers regarding ways to develop water supplies without damaging Colorado's trout fisheries. TU's membership, the conservation community and state leaders and decision-makers look to CWP lawyers and scientists as water experts. CWP efforts center on three areas:

Building Political Will

Defending Instream Flows

Restoring Stream Flows in Key River Basins
