CT TU volunteer plans women's retreat in Madison

Dixie Goodwin has been a longtime TU volunteer. For years, she has helped out with her Thames Valley Connecticut chapter on restoration projects, stream cleanups and has spent a great deal of time working with her local Trout in the Classroom program. TU is and has been a big part of her life. She even became very good friends with a man in her TU chapter member and they eventually married. But, that's another story for another time. (And it's a good one.)

Last September, Dixie and her friend, Jackie, another TU volunteer in Connecticut, participated in TU's first annual women's retreat in Steamboat Springs, Coloradp. They had a blast--their first trip to Colorado was memorable. Meeting other women in TU was a great experience--learning from other women who did what they did was invaluable to them. The fishing wasn't bad, either. And an early morning bear sighting was a bonus for Dixie.

Over the course of the last year, Dixie has volunteered many hours to help plan this year's women's retreat in Madison. We're grateful to her for her generosity of time and spirit. Many of her good ideas will be evident in the retreat this week.

The retreat begins tonight and will bring  women from TU chapters from across the country together to discuss ways to increase TU membership and how to better engage women in TU and the work we do. This year, we're co-locating the retreat with TU's annual meeting--we're hoping that we will all learn from each other's experiences and, together, we'll have good conversations about how to bring more women anglers into TU.

The early fall weather is predicted to be perfect for fishing, too. It promises to be a good week.

I'm glad to know that TU women are gathering now!   As a woman in TU, I look forward to hearing about what you discuss and decide at the retreat!  Thank you for giving your time and energy to TU in this way!

How was the gear show? It sure looked like everyone was having a good time.

It was great--someone who broke her sunglasses yesterday won a pair of Costas and another woman who had leaky, patched waders won a new pair of Orvis waders!
