Video spotlight: Fishing Close to Home

If you’re new to fly fishing, Orvis’ Tom Rosenbauer ought to the be voice in your head. Tom is maybe the nicest guy I’ve met, and he has a knack for making everything sound easy, and even when it’s not, he can guide you through the process, step by step, until it is.

While Tom has fished all over the world for all sorts of game fish, he’s like a lot of us avid fly fishers—sometimes you just need to fish, even if it’s for little pumpkin seeds in the local city park pond.

But close-to-home, urban fly fishing is becoming more and more popular. As Tom points out, you don’t need a host of pricey equipment to get on the water, there’s no need to plan an adventure half a world away and it’s not necessary to drive 500 miles to great fishing when “the tug” can be found five minutes from home.

Spring is on the way, and a lot of us have the itch to get out there. Pretty soon, in certain parts of the country, sunfish and bass will begin nesting, carp will move into shallow water and urban tailwaters will begin to warm up a bit and fish will start moving. Don’t wait for the trip of a lifetime. Go fishing at home. Today.

And bring the kids, while you’re at it.
