Video spotlight: The Kamchatka Steelhead Project

Just as Alaska is home to the northern-most populations of steelhead in this hemisphere, Kamchatka boasts big and mysterious chromers, too.

The film, “The Kamchatka Steelhead Project” is an example of what can be done with a little collaboration, a touch of creativity and the passion that anglers have for these incredible fish.

On Russia’s remote Kamchatka Peninsula, rivers abound with wild steelhead that enjoy strict protections from the Russian government. Fishing for them is only allowed in the name of science—otherwise, it’s illegal. The film chronicles the effort to learn more about these incredible fish, and the lucky anglers who get to cast to and catch them are contributing to the limited knowledge base of Russia’s wild steelhead. It’s a noble cause for a noble fish.
