Abel Reel - Model SDFModel SDF

Winner of the best new freshwater reel at the 2017 ICAST/IFTD show, the SDF comes on the heels of our move to Colorado: the trout-based surroundings inspired us to take it up a notch.

Based on the SDS (Sealed Drag Salt), the SDF (Sealed Drag Fresh) is a scaled-down version of the award-winning saltwater titan featuring similar porting and a stainless steel/carbon fluoropolymer drag system. The SDF boasts an enormous amount of drag, an adjustment range almost three times greater than its predecessor, and virtually zero start up inertia.

We took what was learned from our SDS design, made sure to include the unmistakable Abel fit and finish, and created the best freshwater reel we have ever seen.

Abel Reel - Super SeriesSuper Series

Available since 1999 in a size for every fish that swims, the Abel Super Series has proven itself time after time as the premier American-made reel. While there has been various improvements and adjustments over the years, there are things that have never changed. Specifically, a super-smooth, infinitely adjustable cork drag system married to a strong aluminum frame & large arbor spool for increased line retrieval speed.

For 2017 we have redesigned the original Super Series reel with an all new line of lighter weight sizes that feature a quick change spool system achieved by eliminating the previously removable locknut and drag knob.

The proven drag system is what makes the Super Series equally at home on the trout stream, the salt flats, and demanding deep blue water: It can be set light enough to protect the finest tippet, but can also be cranked to slow down the toughest Bluefin. No matter what species you prefer to chase, a Super Series reel is there to help you land it!

Abel Reel - Model SDSModel SDS

Winner of the best new saltwater reel at the 2016 ICAST/IFTD show, the Abel SDS (Sealed Drag Salt) takes all the power, reliability, and smoothness of its smaller counterpart and combines them in a larger package capable of taking on saltwater gamefish of all sizes. A unique multi-disc drag system yields an industry leading 20+ pounds of braking power, and is completely sealed from the elements. Now available in 3 sizes from our Authorized Dealers, this makes the SDS perfect for fighting big bones on light tippet as well as providing the power needed to halt hard-fighting tarpon in their tracks.

Abel Reel - Mooching ReelMooching Reel

Popularized off the Northern California and Western Canadian coastlines, 'Mooching' is a very successful open water technique utilizing a single action, disc drag type of reel with monofilament line. Introduced in 2013 after a year of what must have been the most brutal field testing we've ever experienced, for 2017 Abel has upgraded the Mooching reel to be even better. The large arbor Abel Mooching reel has become a favorite among guides demanding a product that stands up to their daily abuse throughout the season without a need for maintenance.
