About Us
Our Orvis-Endorsed Fly-Fishing Program allows guests from beginner to expert to cast in some of Central Vermont’s most picturesque rivers and streams. Learn to flycast in our meadow with one of our Orvis Endorsed Guides, or head out to one of the local streams (the Barnard Brook and the Kedron Brook) which are located on our property. You can also choose to venture out into the bigger water (White, Black & Ottauquechee Rivers) for some of Vermont’s best fishing. Some rivers are even accessible year-round, offering early and late season splendor. We also fish flat water, our guides will be available to give you tips as you cast from shore or in one of our Clacka-Craft drift boats.
What we do
From beginners to seasoned anglers, we offer lessons and excursions for everyone! Join our guides to create memorable experiences near classic Vermont covered bridges, in beautiful and clear streams and brooks, at the oldest private fishing club in the country, or create your own personalized adventure!
Our fly-fishing programs and clinics are a great opportunity to gather friends, meet new fishing buddies and get out on the water together during a pre-scheduled event.
Before we head out on excursions or begin a lesson we go over some of the basics of fly-fishing. We ensure everyone feels confident by including instruction of:
Explanation of freshwater fly-fishing gear
Fly casting techniques
Essential fly-fishing knots
Basic stream and pond entomology (science of insects)
Proper fly selection
How to read water and currents
How to play, land and safely release fish
The fishing program at the Woodstock Inn & Resort practices catch and release, and is proud to be committed to the health of the Vermont fisheries.
Where we do it
We typically fish April to October, however there are year-round options for lessons, certain guided trips (weather permitting) and Ice Fishing (see below).
