Get to know Colorado this weekend thanks to Orvis

The Orvis store in Denver's Cherry Creek area is offering anglers the chance to get to know Colorado, and learn about its fly fishing during its upcoming angler education weekend this Saturday and Sunday.

Spring is a great time to bone up on your fishing skills—anglers from all over the West are invited to come and learn from some of Colorado’s best river guides. As always, catch and release and environmental awareness continue Orvis’ commitment to preservation. Every year, 5 percent of all pretax profits are donated to grant programs that benefit nature.

Breckenridge Outfitters, North Park Anglers and Sunrise Anglers will share their love of fly fishing and offer advice on where to fish, what to use, and when to go. Also on the guest list is “Nature’s Educators” — a nonprofit that brings birds of prey into classrooms and events to teach a healthy respect of animals. There will be four live raptors in the Cherry Creek shop. Nature’s Educators teaches outdoor responsibility and reminds anglers to always trash their lines.

Orvis Cherry Creek is also a proud partner with Casting for Recovery — a unique retreat program that combines breast cancer education with the therapeutic sport of fly fishing. CFR will be on hand to answer any questions. Also, say ‘hi’ to the folks from Canine Companions for Independence — they bring people with disabilities and rescue dogs together. This in-store event features a $1,000 Orvis card giveaway, updated fly fishing supplies, free food, and free beer from Denver Beer Co. Stop by for some Pretzel Assassin Lager or Incredible Pedal IPA.

The Orvis Fly Fishing 101 course will be offered for free on both event days — this a great chance for new anglers to learn everything they've ever wanted to know about knots, rigging equipment and basic casting. And, check out local Denver artist Cody Richardson’s one-of-a0-kind trout artwork — he’ll be building cool creations from scratch on site.

Whether you’re a seasoned angler or a brand new bird’s-nester, you’re sure to pick up some excellent river tips. For more, call (303) 355-4554.
