TROUT Tip – pink terrestrials

Now that summer is in full swing, you’re sure to find terrestrials crawling and hopping along the banks.

Fishing terrestrials can be fun as trout see these bugs as big meals when they get blown into the river or inadvertently crawl or flop themselves into the current.

While it can be fun to match this “hatch” by using red and black ants, tan or yellow hoppers, bright blue beetles and the like, there are times when none of the usual suspects work. When this is the case, try pink. Yup, pink.

pink fly invites curiosity and trout might hit it just out of aggression. It is also likely that trout see pink easily because of its high visibility as it stands out against foam lines or in variable light conditions.

So, when none of the usual terrestrial flies are working, tie on one with a pink body and see what happens.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July!
