Fly fishing lakes for trout can be tricky. With an entire of body of water at their disposal and no need to make quick decisions on food that floats by like it might in a river, trout tend to dial in on what’s in the water at any given time.
Above, Russ Miller from Fishpond talks about the still-water retrieve and how to determine what the fish are after in certain instances. He demonstrates a couple of great methods for bringing flies in, and offers up some good advice, such as watching what other successful anglers are doing, including gear anglers in boats.
It’s a good primer on the still-water retrieve. Check it out.
