Trout Unlimited wishes to thank the hundreds of entrants in this spring’s #ResponsibleRecreation drawing. The contest is complete and a grand-prize winner, a second-place winner and a third-place winner have been chosen.

All three winners will be announced on TU social media channels on Wednesday, June 17, so stay tuned. One of these winners could be you!

What’s at stake? The grand-prize winner will receive:

  • A 9ft 4p 5wt Sage X rod
  • Sage Spectrum Reel
  • Rio fly line
  • TU/Rep Your Water beanie

Second place:

  • Orvis Safe Passage chest pack
  • Loaded MCF fly box
  • TU/Rep Your Water beanie

Third place:

  • Costa Del Mar Fantail glasses
  • YETI 10 oz TU logo tumbler
  • TU/Rep Your Water beanie

The contest was conducted to encourage #ResponsibleRecreation while on the water this year, given the dangers associated with the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak across America. While fishing is a generally safe way to recreate during the pandemic, we ask anyone who goes fishing during these challenging times to take all the necessary precautions to ensure they protect themselves and others from catching or spreading the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

Here are some simple suggestions to ensure that you and others will remain as safe as possible while fishing:

  • Wear a mask or face covering when fishing, particularly if you’re standing closer than a rod-length apart from your fellow anglers or fishing buddies.
  • Always wear a mask or face covering when fishing with others from a boat.
  • Drive to the river alone, or with someone with whom you’ve been self-isolating.
  • Wash your hands frequently or use hand sanitizer.
  • Fish alone when it’s safe to do so.
  • Fish close to home — don’t travel to rural communities that may not have the health-care capacity to deal with an outbreak.

As the country is “reopening” from the outbreak, it’s experiencing a “spike” in the numbers of infected people. If you don’t feel well, or if you’ve been exposed to an infected COVID-19 patient, don’t go anywhere where you might come in contact with other people. Stay home. Stay safe.
