I’ve become a big fan of UV cure resins for finishing flies. Not only does the resin dry hard, making a fly almost indestructible, it dries with a nice shine, making the fly much more attractive.
But, I’ve come to realize, not all UV lights used to cure the resins are created equal. They really burn through AAA batteries and, even after just a few uses, they grow dim, increasing the time it takes to cure a fly. No, it’s not the end of the world to have to replace batteries or spend a few extra seconds curing a fly finish, but it does get to be a pain, and a bit pricey when you’re going through a sleeve of AAA batteries every couple of weeks.
Enter the Loon UV Infiniti Light. It’s bright. It matches perfectly with other high-end Loon UV cure products. And, most importantly, it’s rechargeable thanks to a simple USB connection. I tie a lot of flies at my computer work station, so I have USB ports readily available. When I’m tying something that needs a bit of extra durability, like steamers or saltwater patterns, the Infiniti Light makes quick work of the finish.
The $60 price tag might seem a bit much, but if you tie using UV resins frequently, you’ll eventually save money because you won’t constantly be at the cash register buying new batteries. I’m a fan. You will be, too.
