Chris Wood explains on The Wild Idea podcast
Last month, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a plan to rescind the Roadless Rule, which protects 58.5 million acres of some of the finest fish and wildlife habitat on our national forests.
Chris Wood, Trout Unlimited president and CEO, was the senior policy and communication advisor to the Chief of the Forest Service when this rule was implemented in 2001.
Listen to The Wild Idea podcast as hosts Anders Reynolds and Bill Hodge talk with Chris about the history of the Roadless Rule and why it matters so much for wild and native trout and salmon and wild landscapes. Chris discusses why rescinding the rule will not be easy nor popular, in large part because these lands offer some of the best backcountry hunting and angling opportunities in the nation.
“My hope is that common sense will prevail,” he says, “and we will not give up protections of these places that help to define America.”
