Community TU Business

Aventuron is a big player in small business support for TU

I didn’t know much about Sheboygan, Wisc. I had the vague idea that it was in the eastern part of the state on Lake Michigan. I knew that Carl and Kathryn Martens, the owners at Aventuron, had been great TU Business Members for some time. But I didn’t know how great. This little retail outdoor shop in a city of 50,000 midway between Milwaukee and Green Bay punches way above its weight when it comes to selling great gear and supporting great conservation.

Carl and Kathryn are corporate refugees. They escaped their high-pressure city jobs when they realized that nothing recharged their lives and minds and souls like experiences in the outdoors together. They knew first-hand that getting your heart out of the office and on the water and in the woods was the key to it all.  Aventuron was born from that shared realization. It’s a fly shop, a bike shop and a purveyor of quality camping, overlanding gear and much more.

But let’s focus on just one aspect here: fly fishing. We’re fishing people. That’s not just what we do, it’s who we are. It’s what brings us together. And it’s something the folks at Aventuron understand.  They wear their love for those home waters on their sleeves at Aventuron. And it’s their commitment to their home waters – the Sheboygan River, the Onion River, Nichols Creek and more – that sets them apart. Their support for the great work their local Lakeshore Chapter and Wisconsin TU is doing earned them the coveted Business Appreciation Award this year at the 2020 WTU Banquet. Wisconsin TU State Council Chair Mike Kuhr had this to say:

“Here at Trout Unlimited, we first heard about Aventuron when they opened the storefront in Sheboygan, Wisc. They have become a really good partner with our local Trout Unlimited chapter in that area–Lakeshore. They have contributed financially (as well as through in-kind donations) to support local chapter fundraisers. They’ve even run membership drives where they offer to pay for a new member’s first year in the organization. Last year, Aventuron stepped up and contributed several high-value items to the state council to use at our banquet fundraiser. This year, they’ve teamed up with the Lakeshore Chapter, which is well-known for their work on local trout streams. Upcoming plans include billboard advertisements for the store reflecting their status as ‘Proud Member of Lakeshore Chapter of Trout Unlimited’ featuring the TU logo. This type of commitment and support from a local business made Aventuron an easy choice for our 2020 Corporate Sponsor of the Year Award.”

They get fly anglers at Aventuron. They know fly fishing and fly fishing gear. What’s more, they have a track record of commitment to TU in Wisconsin. We’re grateful to Carl and Kathryn and shop manager Anton Pohl. They’re the real deal.
