Do you lend your boat to friends?
This was a multi-day affair and a bachelor party at that, so I should have known better, but I stupidly let my boat go. Luckily for them the carnage happened after they had taken off.
"Can I borrow your boat?"It's a question those of us who own our own watercraft have probably all heard. Loaning boats to friends is a topic as old as time and one on which everyone seems to have an opinion. I personally don't do it anymore, save a very precious few people I trust. I've…
How to store your boat outside in the winter
Even with the frame, you should always pitch a high point in the center of the boat to promote drainage off the tarp from rain and melting springtime snow. Poking a hole in the center of the low point of the tarp will allow the snow melt to escape. (Do not follow this last suggestion if your boat is not self bailing)
It’s about this time of year when I start thinking about where and how I’m going to store my boat(s) for the winter. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve still got some stuff planned, but winter can come literally any day now in my neck of the woods and seeing as climate controlled storage space is…
PSA: This ‘boat blog’ has a name

Boat Books: ‘The Ocean’

The Ultimate Handbook of Nautical Knowledge An interesting coffee table hardback came across my desk a few weeks ago with the title above. I will admit at first I merely glanced over it as I get a lot of books sent to me for review. I’ll be honest — not that many get me fired…
Ode to the homely jon boat
As I rowed the 14-foot lumbering jon boat back to her berth on the side of a remote lake in the Adirondack mountains after an incredible day of smallmouth fishing the other day, I thought to myself how much I both love and hate jon boats. They are ugly as hell, hard to row, but…
What’s the difference between a drift boat and a dory?
The short answer is nothing. They are one in the same... A drift boat (as seen above) is a type of dory, but not all dories are drift boats. Ask a few different folks in the fishing and boating world, though and you'll get a handful of different answers. This argument comes up time and…

Almost everyone owns a camera or has a very powerful one in their phone and, therefore, everyone can be a photographer. While “happy snaps” can do a…
