Check out Namebini for great fishing in Minnesota

Namebini

Namebini has been a northern Minnesota business since 2007, taking its name from the original Ojibwe name for the nearby Sucker River.  Namebini has been a northern Minnesota business since 2007, taking its name from the original Ojibwe name for the nearby Sucker River.  Since then they have offered guided fly fishing and a variety of other services from our property along the Sucker River.

Carl Haensel is an educator, biologist, photographer, writer and fishing guide. He has guided and taught fly fishing since 1996 and has authored over a hundred articles on fly fishing techniques, tips, flies and locations as well as children’s educational literature. Carl serves as the Northern Minnesota Vice Chair for Trout Unlimited.

Jade Thomason is a conservation biologist and photographer that focuses on writing, consulting, GIS mapping and website design. She has worked on forest ecology research teams in Washington for North Cascades National Park and in the Tongass National Forest in Alaska for the US Forest Service. Jade also works closely with Minnesota Trout Unlimited and is the editor of the Minnesota TU publication Trout Unlimited Minnesota.

Together this husband and wife team operate Namebini in Duluth, MN. Guiding fly anglers is a passion at Namebini. They can put you on fish in the north shore or south shore tributaries of Lake Superior. And what fish they are! Trophy brook trout, Lake Superior run brown trout, steelhead, smallmouth and more. Carl and Jade are not just guides to put you on fish, they’re passionate advocates for those fish and the watersheds that support them. You can learn about the geology and the land uses of the area that contribute to the challenges and the successes for wild fish in the north country. But they can also put you on fish in the Driftless Area, one of the great conservation success stories of the upper Midwest. This unglaciated area of SE Minnesota, SW Wisconsin, along with portions of Iowa and Illinois deserves your attention as one of the crown jewels of American fly fishing.

But there’s more. If you’d like to learn more about sustainably harvested forest products like fiddleheads, ramps, maple syrup and wild rice they can teach you. What’s more, you can harvest them yourself while you learn about their natural history and their role on the landscape of northern Minnesota.

Together, Carl and Jade manage the Great Waters Fly Fishing Expo. This great show has been a fixture in the upper Midwest fly fishing community for many years. It’s a celebration of fly fishing, its environs and the people who share it. It’s the largest fly-fishing event in Minnesota. With vendors from across the US including fly shops, guides, manufacturers and conservation groups, it offers the best of fly-fishing. Proceeds from Great Waters benefit Minnesota Trout Unlimited.

Check out Namebini, another great TU Business member.
