Across the country, Trout Unlimited Costa 5 Rivers college clubs are stepping up and squaring off for a powerful purpose.
Through Mother’s Day (May 11, 10:00 MST), these student-led clubs are taking part in the Mother’s Day Giving Challenge, a peer-to-peer fundraising competition to benefit Casting for Recovery (CfR), a nonprofit that provides healing fly fishing retreats for women with breast cancer.
Every dollar raised sends a woman in treatment or recovery on a life-changing CfR retreat and supports the work of TU Costa 5 Rivers clubs, who represent the future of conservation and community leadership in fly fishing.
Last year, participating clubs raised $14,500 for Casting for Recovery—supporting women with breast cancer through the sport they love. The challenge came down to the wire in a thrilling finish between the University of Utah, University of Colorado and Clemson Fly Fishing Club.
This year, it’s all about students inspiring their families and communities to get involved. We’re encouraging clubs and their alums to tap into their networks—ask your moms, dads, siblings and friends to support their alma mater!

Susan Gaetz, Executive Director for Casting for Recovery said, “We are so excited to partner with Trout Unlimited’s college clubs again this year. When students step up like this, it shows just how strong and compassionate this fly fishing community really is. They’re making it possible for more women to experience the healing power of time on the water.”
